Membership

To continue (which remains our goal), we need new members! The responsibilities of membership in the UDUUF are personally defined.

Beloved community...

Article III of our Fellowship's bylaws outlines the requirements for becoming a member:

Article III: Membership

a. Any person who is in sympathy with the purposes and programs of the Fellowship and the principles and purposes of the Unitarian Universalist Association shall be eligible for membership. Prior to membership, an applicant should consult with the minister or a member of the Board of Directors about the heritage and principles of Unitarian Universalism and the responsibilities of commitment to the congregation.

b. A person may become a member by:

1. Signing the membership book, and.

2. Pledging financial support of the Fellowship in the form of an annual pledge. (Article III Revised June 2009.)

c. The Fellowship welcomes all people without regard to race, color, sex, disability, affectional or sexual orientation, age, or national origin.

The "heritage and principles of Unitarian Universalism" are likely familiar to you from your past experiences with the UDUUF or other Unitarian Universalist churches, fellowships, or ethical culture societies. If not, we invite you to review the Seven Principles and other materials on the UUA website. Additionally, see the Statement of Purpose, which was written and adopted by our group when we first affiliated with the UUA, as well as the "100 Questions" pamphlet attached. Our UU fellowship has met continuously since July 30, 1987.

The fact that the UDUUF still exists is testament to the support in the river valley for its presence here. Many friends and visitors have expressed their thanks or appreciation for the UDUUF's contributions to the local community culture over the last three decades. Maybe they attend services for a topic they find meaningful, useful, and rejuvenating in some sense. Some visitors encourage us to hesitate the organizational and spiritual foundation, but hesitate to take the two simple steps to membership mentioned above. Whoever you are, we invite you to make an Annual Pledge. If you've already made a Pledge for 2024, thank you!

The act of "pledging financial support" is a symbolic and tangible affirmation of support for the UDUUF. The amount pledged is up to each member based on their resources. A blank pledge form can be downloaded here. The above-quoted bylaw was amended in 2009 to clarify the distinction between donations to the Social Justice Fund and a member's "Annual Pledge".

Pledges support our local operating budget, while Social Justice Fund donations pass through our treasury to the charities we support.

If you are in sympathy with the purposes and principles of the UUA and wish to continue your involvement with us here in the Upper Delaware River Valley, please consider making an Annual Pledge of whatever you can afford. (There is no minimum request or suggested amount for this pledge. The amount you pledge and give is confidential between you, our Treasurer, and the IRS.)

The second affirmative act leading to membership is signing our Membership Book. If you signed the book years ago and have not made an Annual Pledge recently, please consider coming back and complete the attached UDUUF pledge form and sending it to our Treasurer, Sharon Page-Lisenbee, at PO Box 47, Narrowsburg, NY 12764, or by email at lehighpaige@gmail.com. If you feel called or inspired to sign the Membership Book a second time as a reaffirmation, you may do so. Or, you can decide that one signature is enough.
